Atlanta City Council Adopts New Ordinance

Led by Atlanta City Councilmember Kwanza Hall’s leadership, the gumption of his Policy Director, Colleen Kiernan, the very timely assistance of City of Atlanta Senior Assistant Attorney Amber Robinson and the initiative and expertise of Sard & Leff, the Atlanta City Council has adopted an ordinance that allows all businesses that are properly licensed for the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises in the city of Atlanta – regardless of quantity of annual food sales – to sell alcoholic beverages:

  • On Sunday, December 31, 2017 from 12:30 PM until Midnight (all businesses already have the authority to sell alcohol on Monday, January 1 from Midnight until 2:30 AM); and
  • On Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 12:30 PM until 2:30 AM on Monday, January 8, 2018.

On premises consumption licensee types that may sell alcoholic beverages during such dates and times include bars, nightclubs, restaurants, hotels, private clubs, lounges, convention centers, brewpubs, nonprofit performing arts theaters, nonprofit museums, nonprofit botanical gardens, auditoriums, sports coliseums, suite hotels, open air cafés and outdoor markets.
